Kyrgyz Artist and Researcher Visits the Department of Folk Music

8 May 2026

Roza Amanova, Director of the Research Center for Traditional Culture and Art in Kyrgyzstan, visited the Department to strengthen professional ties.

A renowned singer and instrumentalist, she participated in an informal meeting with the head of the department, faculty, and students. During her visit, she introduced her traditional instrument and performed some of her own folk-inspired compositions, while also recording well-known Hungarian folk songs performed by the students.

She generously donated her latest book to the Department’s library, along with a copy of the Russian edition of our faculty member János Sipos’s work on Kyrgyz folk music, published earlier this year.

The visit also opened up concrete professional opportunities: the Director invited the Department to an international scientific conference and art festival this September, to be held in Cholpon-Ata, on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan. Developing international networks remains a priority for the Department, and Hungarian folk music provides an excellent foundation for deepening relations with the East.
