Beatrice Rana & Amsterdam Sinfonietta Presented by Liszt Academy

Beatrice Rana, who was born in southern Italy, won a silver medal at the Van Cliburn Piano Competition. Her recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations earnt her a nomination at the Classic Brit Awards. She has made several appearances at Carnegie Hall, most recently in October 2019 with two keyboard concertos by Bach. She plays the same two compositions at the Liszt Academy, accompanied this time by Amsterdam Sinfonietta (established: 1988), of which Candida Thompson has been concertmaster since 1995, and artistic director since 2003. The superb orchestra functioning without a conductor opens the evening with one of the symphonies by the Bach son, considered to be a herald of the First Viennese School and an artist who has bequeathed posterity with most dramatic and original compositions. There are also pieces by two iconic English composers; the composition (2020) by Thomas Adès is a premiere in Hungary.
