A total of 67 sites, institutions, collections, and documents bear the “European Heritage Label” (EHL), symbolizing the milestones in the development of modern Europe from the dawn of civilization to the present day. After discovering exciting parallels between the Hungarian and Spanish art scenes at the turn of the century, the 150-year-old Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest and the Residencia de Estudiantes in Madrid, which opened in 1910, decided to create concerts in both Budapest and Madrid to present their findings to the public. These two EHL-sites have worked closely with experts exploring the way in which the shared European framework of the geopolitically very different countries has secured a ground on which modernity, a high degree of openness, a pronounced love of freedom and an increased interest in ancient traditions appeared almost simultaneously. During our concert, musicologist David Ferreiro Carballo and art historian David Solórzano Pinilla will guide the audience through the world of Spanish music and painting, presenting the art of well-known and lesser-known artists, as well as the Residencia de Estudiantes, an iconic venue in Madrid's literary life.

The lecture will be held in English accompanied by a screening.
