Szilvia Bognár & Klára Csernók – Building from Sound, Word, and Heritage
Presented by Liszt Academy
Szilvia Bognár (vocals), Klára Csernók (violin), Dániel Szabó (cimbalom), Endre Papp (viola), Viktor Pandák (double bass)
What can people today express through the language of folk music, now that traditional rural culture feels increasingly distant? Perhaps the same as their ancestors once did – by creating their own music from sound, word, and the legacy handed down to them. That is exactly what singer Szilvia Bognár and violinist Klára Csernók, both faculty members of the Liszt Academy’s Folk Music Department, set out to do together with outstanding musician friends. Bognár and Csernók are versatile soloists who also devote themselves to music education from early childhood to conservatory level. The ensemble also includes Dániel Szabó (the department’s cimbalom professor) as well as Endre Papp and Viktor Pandák from the Hungarian National Dance Ensemble. They will perform a program that draws from the most timeless and heart-stirring Hungarian folk songs. The concert traces how a dance tune can travel across centuries – from a Transdanubian bagpipe song to a Kalotaszeg csárdás – and brings to life the rich musical world of Szatmár, as well as vibrant Moldavian dances in new, imaginative musical dimensions.
