XV. Dance House Day

Featuring students and professors of the Folk Music Department of the Liszt Academy

Every year, Dance House Day is celebrated across Hungary to mark the anniversary of the country’s very first táncház, a traditional dance gathering reimagined for an urban setting. More than fifty years ago, that first experimental event in Budapest revived the communal practice of folk dance and music in a new form, sparking what would become known worldwide as the dance house movement. The movement’s cultural impact has been so significant that in 2011 UNESCO recognized it as one of the Best Safeguarding Practices of Intangible Cultural Heritage. This year’s folk music concert is part of a nationwide program series jointly organized since 2022. The artistic concept has been developed by the Hungarian Heritage House, and the performers are faculty members and students of the Liszt Academy’s Folk Music Department.
