Celebrating its 145th anniversary, the Liszt Academy has been the stronghold of Hungarian musical education since its founding in November 1875. The personality of Franz Liszt, the founding father, largely determines the mission of this institution even after almost a century and a half. His compositions, which have deeply affected the history of music and his career as a recitalist, represent a heritage that forms the bedrock of the Academy’s music instruction programme and exemplifies the highest standard of artistic quality. It is this quality to which the students in the Symphony Orchestra of the Liszt Academy will aspire this evening when performing an arrangement of a chamber music piece by Leó Weiner and Arnold Schoenberg, respectively, as well as Mozart’s early concerto, conducted by Gilbert Varga, the world-class maestro, who is of Hungarian descent. The solo part of Romance is performed by Mátyás Hotzi, member of the Hungarian National Philharmonic, and Erzsébet Jenei, student at the Doctoral School of the Liszt Academy. The piano solo will be played by Ádám Balogh, who won second place in the piano category during the Bartók World Competition.
