Postgraduate Specialist Training Programme in Historical Performance
The Liszt Academy of Music is launching a postgraduate specialist training programme in historical performance (voice, flute, violin, and cello) from the academic year 2019/20 for people who already have a BA diploma and who want to specialize and further improve their already existing instrumental or vocal knowledge in the field of historical music (17-18th century).
The programme is primarily recommended for applicants who have already studied historical music to a certain degree (e.g. completing secondary instrument class in the respective field in a previous study programme) or those who have professional experience.
The programme consists of vocal or instrumental main subject, repertoire studies, chamber music, orchestra or choir practice and a few theory classes, and it ends with a diploma concert. The curriculum is available here.
Participants receive a certificate (diploma), and obtain the qualification historical performer (instrument/voice).

Programme length:
2 semesters, the number of credits to be obtained is 60.
The type of training is evening training, the number of hours per semester is 50 hours.
The professor in charge of the programme is György Vashegyi.
Main subject professors: Emőke Baráth (voice), Vera Balogh (flute), László Paulik (violin), Piroska Baranyay (cello). Orchestra and choir practice classes will be completed by participating in the rehearsals and the concert of Orfeo Orchestra and Purcell Choir.
The programme is only available for self-financing applicants in Hungarian or English for 220 000 HUF/participant/semester.
Prerequisite for entering the programme is having acquired a diploma from one of the following programmes: performance BA, creative arts and musicology BA, 5 year programme from before the bologna system, university level music programme. (Having an MA degree does not exclude any applicant.)
Audition requirements:
The entrance examination contains main subject examination only.
Voice:
- One aria by Bach
- One Italian or French barque opera aria
- One oratorio aria (in Italian or English or Latin)
- One aria by Mozart or Haydn
Flute:
- At least one fast and one slow movement of a piece in French style (J.-M. Hotteterre, F. Couperin, Boismortier etc.)
- At least one fast and one slow movement of a piece in gallant style (C. P. E. Bach or by another composer representing the Berlin-style)
Violin:
- One movement by Bach
- One slow movement chosen by the candidate
- One fast movement chosen by the candidate
Cello:
Altogether 3-4 movements from the following pieces
- One or two movements from the cello suites of J. S. Bach
- Solo piece from Gabrielli, Supriani, Frescobaldi
- Two movements from any original baroque cello sonata (e.g. Geminiani, Vivaldi, Boccherini, Barriere, Telemann, de Fesch etc.)

The location of the entrance examination is Ligeti György Building (Wesselényi str. 52., Budapest, 1077) of the Liszt Academy of Music.

3 September 2019, 09:00 – registration for instrumentalists
3 September 2019, 09:30 – entrance examination for instrumentalists (flute, violin, cello)
3 September 2019, 14:40 – registration for voice applicants
3 September 2019, 15:00 – entrance examination for voice applicants
Applicants will be notified about the results of the entrance examination until 10 September.
