Violin Bachelor Training - Course Description

Classical Violin Studies

The basic aim of the violin main subject on the bachelor level is to reach a reliable technical level, to establish the foundations of further artistic and pedagogical advancement, to prepare the students for the master training. Students have to pass a compulsory exam in their main subject at the end of each semester, which guarantees constant professional control.

Examination materials: candidate will be evaluated based upon performance of the following

Attention to all students:

• Chamber music pieces may be played from sheet music, everything else without sheet music. The same goes for the diploma concert.
• Sonatas may be perforamed with either a chamber music partner (currently doing their studies at the Academy) or an accompanist (employed by the Academy).

• one movement of a J.S. Bach partita or solo sonata, AND an outer movement of a violin concerto (except: Mozart concertos) or a virtuoso performance piece

OR

• an outer movement of an etude and a violin concerto (except: Mozart concertos) or a virtuoso performance piece

OR

• a virtuoso performance piece and a slow movement of a concerto (except: Mozart concertos)

• one etude selected by the student
• 1st movement of a concerto
• two movements of contrasting characters and different tempos from the Partitas or solo sonatas by J.S. Bach

• two pieces selected by the student and a compulsory etude (in 2023/2024: J. Dont: Etude No. 7 from 24 Etudes, Op. 35 or N. Paganini: Caprice No. 18 from 24 Caprices, Op. 1)
• a slow paced performance piece, min. 5 minutes long

• an outer movement of a concerto (except: Mozart concertos, cannot be chosen) and a virtuoso piece
  OR
• two movements of contrasting characters from the Partitas and solo sonatas by J.S. Bach, and an outer movement of a concerto (except: Mozart concertos)

• 1st movement or 2nd-3rd movements Mozart's violin concerto K. 216 in G major OR K. 218 in D major OR K. 219 in A major OR K. 207 in B flat major Or K. 271 in D major
• a caprice by Paganini
• one of the pieces here or a contemporary piece published in Hungary (min. 5 minutes long)

• the first two movements of a Bach solo sonata OR Chaconne
• the opening movement of a concerto (except: Mozart concertos)
• one or two movements of a sonata (min. 5 minutes long, max. 10 minutes long)
