Viola Bachelor Training - Course Description
Exam Material
BA I
1st semester: 1 concerto's outer movement, 2 movements by Bach, 1 etude, performance of a contemporary piece given to the student beforehand by the sub-department
2nd semester: 1 concerto's outer movement, 2 movements by Bach, 1 etude, orchestral parts (2-3 excerpts randomly selected from 10 orchestral parts announced in advance + sight-reading)
BA II
1st semester: 2 etudes, a 3-octave scale, three-note chord (triad; arpeggio), third, sixth, octave, with double-stoppings, performance of a contemporary piece given to the student beforehand by the sub-department
2nd semester: 1 concerto's outer movement, 2 movements by Bach, 1 etude, orchestral parts (2-3 excerpts randomly selected from 10 orchestral parts announced in advance + sight-reading)
BA III
1st semester: 1 concerto's outer movement, 2 movements by Bach, 1 etude
Preparation for the BA diploma concert
BA DIPLOMA CONCERT
- 1 concerto's outer movement
- 2 movements by Bach (cello suite, or violin solo sonata/partita)
- 1 chamber music movement or piece, where the viola plays a significant part (duo, sonata, trio, etc)
Repertoire Covered During Studies
BA I
- Etude material: Hoffmeister, Gavinies, Rode, Vieux
- J. S. Bach: 2 cello suites, or 2 solo sonatas, or 2 partitas
- 2 concertos, or a piece with the same value (e.g..: Enescu: Konzertstück)
BA II
- Etude matieral: Lukács position-shifting exercises, Gavinies, Vieux
- J. S. Bach: 2 cello suites, or 2 solo sonatas, or 2 partitas
- 2 concertos, or a piece with the same value
BA III
- Etude material: Vieux, Hermann (6 concert etudes), Paganini
- J. S. Bach: same as the above
- Concerto: same as the above
