The Liszt Academy announces the Davison Young Musicians Foundation National Trumpet Competition

The Brass Sub-Department of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music will organize the first “DYMF” national trumpet competition on 19 October 2024.

The primary aim of the competition is to offer students of secondary school and university age the opportunity to compete at a high level and, if successful, to acquire a valuable instrument to use in their studies and work.

10:00 Saturday 19 October 2024 | Liszt Academy Main Building (H-1061 Budapest, Liszt Ferenc tér 8.), Room X

 

ELIGIBILITY:

Hungarian or foreign trumpet students who either study at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music or another Hungarian musical higher education institution in a BA, artist MA or one-tier MA programme as well as high school students who study in a Hungarian musical institution.

High school students may apply to the “Under 25” category as well.

At the same time, trumpet students can also apply to the other competitions as well in their appropriate age group.

Number of participants: maximum 15-15 per category, in order of application

 

CONDITIONS:

Travel and accommodation costs are the responsibility of the participants.

Prizes:

A Yamaha 4435II C-Bb instrument and a John Packer JP254SWS Pickup A-Bb instrument will be given away during the competition.

In the high school category, the Yamaha C-Bb instrument will be awarded, while in the under-25 category, the JP A-Bb piccolo trumpet will be given to the winner.

Maximum 10 minutes

1st piece:
One freely chosen etude from: Theo Charlier: 36 Transcendantes Études

2nd piece:
László Dubrovay: Walzer és Scherzo


Category No. 2

Under 25 JP A-Bb piccolo trumpet

Maximum 15 minutes

1st piece:
One of the pieces listed below:

  • Giuseppe Torelli: Sonata for Trumpet in D major, G. 1
  • Georg Friedrich Handel: Suite in D-major, HWV 341
  • Giuseppe Tartini: Concerto in D-major, D53

 

2nd piece:
A freely chosen piece that is a different style than the piece chosen as the first one.

 

The pieces can be played by score.

On request piano accompaniment will be provided

 

IMPORTANT: In this competition it is not possible to play the same pieces from the "DYMF" Brass Instrument Competition and the "DYMF" High School National Trumpet Competition.
