Crosscurrents
An essential component of the contemporary scene of the Liszt Academy is the contemporary music programme series organised with our key partner institution, the Music Academy of Vienna along with a changing third institution.
Among the events we organise are symposiums, workshops and concerts. One of the peculiarities of the project is that we aim to address different musical genres, instruments with our third partners and thus further widen the themes of the events. During the project all participants visit the other two institutions creating an artistic circulation, or currents.
In January 2015, the composition professors and students of the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music in Riga were welcomed in a joint workshop along with the academies of Vienna and Budapest, where the contemporary aspects of folk music were elaborated upon. During the autumn of 2015, we completed this cooperation with a joint contemporary concert.
In May 2015, the professors and students of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague joined the academies of Vienna and Budapest to organise a contemporary music symposium at the Liszt Academy, where they could discuss their pieces and the modern trends of musical composition. They also had the chance to participate in a concert in which the contemporary pieces of our guests were performed by Hungarian musicians.
Our third contemporary initiation with our partner institution of Vienna is a workshop organised with the Sibelius Akatemia in Helsinki, focusing on the role of the double bass in modern compositions. In the spirit of this cooperation, the three institutions plan to organise workshops during the autumn of 2015, which will be followed by a concert in the summer of 2016.
The project has been supported by the National Cultural Fund of Hungary, Czech Centres and the Austrian Cultural Forum
