Position at the Institute: senior lecturer
Anna Falvai is one of the brightest pianists of the younger generation in Hungary today. The piano is her mother tongue, having been born into a family of highly celebrated, outstanding pianists, with her mother, father, and even her sister all being pianists (all of whom teach in the Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest).
She began playing the piano at the age of six, and soon after gained success in regional and national competitions. She was enrolled in the School of Exceptional Young Talents’ of the Liszt Academy of Music at the age of 12, where she studied under Gábor Eckhardt and Balázs Szokolay.
Between 2003-2007, she continued her studies as a regular student at the Liszt Academy of Music with Balázs Szokolay and Attila Némethy. She spent two semesters as an Erasmus student at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, in Imre Rohmann’s class. She attended masterclasses by Malcolm Bilson, Zoltán Kocsis, Ferenc Rados, Peter Frankl, Márta Gulyás, Martin Hughes and other well-known pianists.
After receiving a diploma with qualifications as a pianist and a piano teacher she started teaching in various music schools in Budapest. During this period, she was also admitted to the Liszt Academy’s Doctoral School, where she received her DLA qualification in 2019. Her dissertation: Mihály Bächer’s Career: Pedagogical Work, Interpretational Features, Reception is about one of the most influential pianists and pedagogues of the 20th century Hungarian piano scene.
As a concert pianist she has performed all over the world, from China to Canada, as well as across Europe, appearing in Switzerland, Italy, Finland, Estonia, Sweden and Portugal.
She joined the Kodály Institute of the Liszt Academy of Music in 2018, where she teaches piano and chamber music.
