Christopher Hinterhuber is an internationally celebrated pianist whose award-winning recordings—praised by Fono Forum as “one of the most fascinating piano albums of the year” and chosen as Gramophone’s “Editor’s Choice”—have established him as one of Austria’s leading musicians. His discography for major labels such as Sony Classical and Naxos showcases his range, including the highly acclaimed 5-CD series of Ferdinand Ries’s piano concertos. Hinterhuber’s artistic path was shaped through studies in Vienna and at the Accademia Pianistica in Imola under masters like Lazar Berman and Leonid Margarius. Among the most prestigious competitions he won are the Bach Competition in Leipzig, the Geza Anda Competition in Zurich, and the Beethoven Competition in Vienna. He has performed at world-renowned festivals such as Schleswig-Holstein and the Ruhr Piano Festival, collaborated with conductors like Vladimir Ashkenazy and Yakov Kreizberg, and played with major orchestras including the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. Alongside his international concert career, he is also a dedicated chamber musician with the Altenberg Trio Vienna and serves as a professor, and Associate Head of Department at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
