Mara Galassi is one of Europe’s most prominent pioneers of historical harp performance. She began her musical studies on the modern pedal harp, studying under Luciana Chierici, David Watkins, and Emmy Huerlimann, and later delved into the practice of historically informed performance under the guidance of harpsichordist David Collyer, lutenist Patrick O’Brien, and musicologist Michael Morrow. She has served as principal harpist at the Genoa Opera House, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, and has performed with many renowned early music ensembles, including Concerto Vocale (René Jacobs), Concerto Italiano (Rinaldo Alessandrini), Mala Punica (Pedro Memelsdorff), Concerto Soave, Concerto Köln, the Freiburger Barockorchester, and the Akademie für Alte Musik. As musicologist she has done extensive research in the field of historical harps, and her scholar work is reflected in numerous recordings released by prestigious labels. She currently teaches in Milan and Barcelona and regularly gives masterclasses at leading music institutions across Europe.
