The Chicago jazz pianist and singer has won international acclaim for her sultry vocals and stunning piano playing, and is now considered a major American composer. Barber has been a guest at the finest jazz clubs and festivals from Chicago to Paris to Oslo. “There are few performers in jazz or outside of it who are as consistently brilliant as Patricia Barber”, wrote the Jazz Times.
A poetic, eccentric singer of contemporary jazz, Patrica Barber combines melodic music with a dark-toned, mystical alto voice and bold piano playing. “Poetry is a passion, a guide who is always at hand and my main inspiration. Unlike the language of music, words are accessible to everyone. Whether I study poetry or music, I look directly to the original source for guidance. Since poetry is music, and music is a magical quality, so is poetry.”
