Choir Conducting Examination Requirements
BA I
A/ Examination with piano:
Conducting of 3 freely chosen pieces of different characters and styles; one of them a Hungarian piece
Presentation of the examination material with piano:
singing the inner/middle part, without interruptions, in character-appropriate and levelled tempo and style-appropriate rendering; without sheet music The presentation is the prerequisite of the examination.
The examinees have to provide the pianists, as well as the sheet music for the examination committee.
The students have to submit their programme in writing, which includes the annual conducting repertoire (min. 16 pieces) and the choral piece.
B/ Examination with choir:
Teaching of 1 freely chosen piece or excerpt to the choir in 8 to 10 minutes. It may be one of the pieces of the examination with piano.
Members of the choir are students of the Liszt Academy.
Examinees have to provide the sheet music for the members of the choir and the examination committee.
BA II
A/ Examination with piano: conducting of 3 freely chosen pieces
1) a 16th or 17th century piece
2) a Baroque, Classical or Romantic piece
3) a 20th century piece
The annual repertoire has to contain at least 4 Hungarian pieces (or 25% of the completed material).
Presentation with piano: singing the inner/middle part of 2 pieces of the examination material, without interruptions, in character-appropriate and levelled tempo and style-appropriate rendering One of the pieces is to be played on the piano without sheet music. The presentation is the prerequisite of the examination.
The examinees have to provide the pianists, as well as the sheet music for the examination committee.
The students have to submit their programme in writing, which includes the annual conducting repertoire (min. 16 pieces), as well.
B/ Conducting technique examination with choir:
Conducting two excerpts from the repeortire from the repertoire of the conducting practice examination. The examinee chooses the two excerpts randomly at the exam. The grade of the conducting technique examination is part of final grade of the conducting technique main subject at the end of academic year.
C/ Examination with choir:
Teaching of 1 freely chosen piece or excerpt to the choir in 10 minutes. It may be one of the pieces of the examination with piano.
Members of the choir are students of the Liszt Academy.
Examinees have to provide the sheet music for the members of the choir and the examination committee.
BA III
A/ Examination with piano: Conducting of 3 freely chosen pieces of different characters and styles; one has to be a longer Renaissance composition.
Presentation with piano: singing the inner/middle part of 2 pieces of the examination material, without interruptions, in character-appropriate and levelled tempo and style-appropriate rendering. One of the pieces is to be played without sheet music. The presentation is the prerequisite of the examination.
The examinees have to provide the pianists, as well as the sheet music for the examination committee. The students have to submit their programme in writing, which includes the annual conducting repertoire (min. 16 pieces), as well.
MA I
Examination with piano: Conducting of 3 freely chosen pieces:
1) a 16th or 17th century piece
2) a Romantic piece
3) a contemporary Hungarian piece
The annual repertoire has to contain at least four 20th century pieces (or 25% of the completed material). At least one of them is a potential piece of the diploma concert programme.
Presentation with piano: singing the inner/middle part of 2 pieces of the examination material, without interruptions, in character-appropriate and levelled tempo and style-appropriate rendering Sheet music may be used. The presentation is the prerequisite of the examination.
The examinees have to provide the pianists, as well as the sheet music for the examination committee. The students have to submit their programme in writing, which includes the annual conducting repertoire (min. 16 pieces), as well.
MA II
Piano examination: Conducting of 3 freely chosen pieces:
1) one movement of a freely chosen oratorio or opera
2) a Baroque, Classical or Romantic piece
3) a Kodály mixed choir piece, or a longer Bartók composition
("Négy magyar népdal", "Elmúlt időkből", "Falun", "Székely dalok", etc.)
Presentation with piano: singing the inner/middle part of 2 pieces of the examination material, without interruptions, in character-appropriate and levelled tempo and style-appropriate rendering Sheet music may be used. The presentation is the prerequisite of the examination.
The examinees have to provide the pianists, as well as the sheet music for the examination committee. The students have to submit their programme in writing, which includes the annual conducting repertoire (min. 16 pieces), as well.
The presentation with piano takes place before the conducting examination; the exact date and time of the presentation is consulted with the main subject teachers.
