The chamber music adaptation of J.S. Bach's Chaconne (BWV 1004) for solo violin has been conceived by Márta Ábrahám for eight musicians in collaboration with the students of the String Department. The arrangement of the octet is adapted to the formal structure of the Chaconne’ 64 variation. Four violinists are accompanied by four violas, which play the bass notes of the basso ostinato forming the harmonic foundation of the piece. This special arrangement highlights the Chaconne's complex system of relationships and the (hidden) polyphony in both space and time, revealing the intricate layers of the piece. The innovative approach sheds light on the unparalleled richness of Bach's musical language and facilitates the learning process.
This event, presented by the Strings Department of the Academy of Music, is recommended for violinists, viola players, cellists, guitarists, composers, musicologists, and organists, as well as for all Bach lovers.
