Oratorio and Lied Singing master's degree programme examination requirements


Entrance examination

  • One piece is chosen by the candidate and two are chosen by the examination panel from the following pieces:
  • One classical song
  • One romantic Lied
  • Two art songs by Bartók or by Kodály
  • One contemporary art song from the applicant's country
  • One 20th century art song (not Hungarian)
  • Two arias from an oratorio or a cantata.

 

MA I

1st semester

  • 1 entire oratorio role, with ensembles of various combinations
  • 2  oratorios masses, cantatas or concert arias
  • 12 songs of various styles, including Schubert and Liszt pieces

Examination material

  • 1 oratorio, mass, cantata or concert aria
  • 1 oratorio ensemble
  • 1 classical song
  • 1 romantic Lied
  • 1 Schubert or Liszt song
  • 1 20th century non-Hungarian song
  • 1 contemporary song from the applicant's country

All pieces are to be sung in their original language.

2nd semester

  • 1 entire oratorio role
  • 2 oratorios, masses, cantatas or concert arias
  • 1 whole song cycle
  • 6 or 8 songs of various styles, depending on the length of the song cycle

Examination material

  • 25-30 minute-long concert programme, which can be
  • 1 song cycle or
  • a thematic programme of pieces by one poet or composer, that can contain oratorio, mass, cantata or concert aria

 

MA II

1st and 2nd semester, preparation for the diploma concert

Diploma concert programme of 60 minutes:

  • 1 entire cantata, or arias chosen by the student
  • 1 song cycle or a thematic programme of songs by one poet or composer


The diploma concert is to reflect the performers' personality, best of their knowledge and abilities, and is to prove their preparedness for the career of a performing artist.
