Requirements for Completing School Observation/Attendance of Orchestral Rehearsal Class for Conductors
Academic Year 2024/25
Every student must observe professional orchestras and choirs appointed by the Conducting Department.
In order to complete the subject, a minimum of 10 occasions are needed which are to be recorded in a journal, available here.
Three consecutive hours of rehearsal equals to two occasions of School Observation.
ratio of the observations:
- for BA orchestra and choral conductors: 50% orchestra, 50% choir rehearsals
- for BA choir and MA choir conductors: 2/3 choir rehearsals, 1/3 orchestra rehearsals
- for BA orchestra and MA orchestra conductors: 2/3 orchestra rehearsals, 1/3 choir rehearsals
Please be aware that you have to bring your journal to the rehearsals (available here).
At the end of the rehearsal one of the following participants may grant you signature:
- choir/orchestra secretary
- musical director
- art director
- conductor
- section/part leader
- director
- assistant to the director
- accompanist
- art secretary

Hungarian State Opera (Magyar Állami Operaház): send an e-mail to department administrator, Alexandra Détári at detari.alexandra[at]zeneakademia.hu, five days before the rehearsal date (at the latest!).
Hungarian Radio Symphony Choir (Magyar Rádió Énekkara): send an e-mail including your ID number to jobbagy.orsolya@mtva.hu, five days before the rehearsal date (at the latest!).
Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (Magyar Rádió Zenekara): send an e-mail including your ID number to megyeri.tunde[at]mtva.hu, five days before the rehearsal date (at the latest!).
Hungarian National Philharmonic Choir (Nemzeti Énekkar): send an e-mail to department administrator, Alexandra Détári at detari.alexandra[at]zeneakademia.hu, five days before the rehearsal date (at the latest!).
Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra (Nemzeti Filharmonikus Zenekar): send an e-mail to department administrator, Alexandra Détári at detari.alexandra[at]zeneakademia.hu, five days before the rehearsal date (at the latest!).
The rehearsal schedules will be available each month via e-mail, sent by the study administrators.
