Shimizu Yosuke was born in Japan in 2002 and began his cello studies at the age of six. His first major professional success came in 2013 at the 5th David Popper International Cello Competition in Hungary, where he won 1st prize. Since 2017, he has been studying at the Liszt Academy in the class of Csaba Onczay, first as a student of the School for Exceptional Young Talents and now he is finishing the Bachelor’s programme. He has won several national and international competitions: 1st prize at the VI Gifu International Music Competition in 2014, 2nd prize at the I Cellist Composer National Competition in 2016, and 1st prize at the XVI Izumi-no Mori National Cello Competition in the same year. As a soloist, he has performed with several orchestras and played solo at the New Year’s Eve 2023 at the Liszt Academy with the Hungarian Radio Orchestra conducted by Oliver von Dohnányi. In 2024, he received the “Gifu Prefecture Arts and Culture Award” from the Gifu Prefecture. He is a member and active participant of the “Kobaken and Friends Orchestra” led by Kenichiro Kobayashi. He has given concerts in Japan, Hungary and Germany. He has participated in the master classes of many renowned cellists, including Miklós Perényi, Tamás Varga, Kangho Lee and Matias De Oliveira Pinto.
