The Liszt Academy and the Hungarian–Japanese Friendship Society have established a tradition over the years with their joint event, where students of the Academy prepare a special program. Alongside works by Western European composers, the program always features popular or rarely performed pieces by Hungarian composers, as well as a diverse selection from Japanese musical art. The artistic director of the event is Csaba Onczay, a Liszt, Bartók–Pásztory, and Kossuth Prize-winning cellist and professor emeritus of the String Department.
