Oratorio and Lied Singing MA Course Description
Aim is to master as much pieces composed for a certain voice type as possible (Lieder, oratorios, cantatas, chamber compositions), tending to reach the highest artistic level. Getting acquainted with the interpretational style of different periods, putting accent on mastering the pieces in their original languages and understanding the connection between lyrics and music are further goals of the education.

Suggested literature
Oratorios and cantatas by Händel and J S. Bach; songs from Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Loewe, Liszt, Debussy, R. Strauss, etc.
Exam
2 concerts in a course of an academic year held usually in January and May.
1. semester
1 classic song – 1 romantic song – 1 contemporary Hungarian song – 1 20th century song (not Hungarian) – 1 oratorical ensemble (duet, trio, quartet) – 2 arias from oratorios or cantatas
2. semester
Programme in duration of 20-25 minutes. It can be a selection from a song cycle or a series of songs from either one composer, one poet or dealing with one subject. Other ideas are welcome!

Grading
Grade is always given on a five point scale.
Diploma Concert
The diploma concert is due in the 4th semester. It is open to public and should last 1 hour.
Requirement
The selection has to fulfil very high artistic standards, therefore the list of compositions planned for the concert has to be submitted to the committee of the teaching staff of the Department for previous approval.
Programme
The student can choose to perform a song cycle or a series of songs from either one composer, one poet or dealing with one subject. Other ideas are welcome!
