Violoncello admission requirements for MA studies
Admission requirements are the same for in person and online applicants unless indicated otherwise.
Main subject:
- Britten: Suite No. 1, Op 72 . Suite Moto perpetuo movement, or Sándor Veress: Solo sonata Epilogo movement, or Ligeti: solo sonata Capriccio movement, or Dutilleux: Trois Strophes (…) 3rd movement, or from Penderecki’s Divertimento the Scherzo movement, or Lutoslawski Sacher variations
- Excerpt from a cello-piano sonata piece in 10 minutes
- A fast-movement of a concerto
- J.S. Bach: Suite Nr. 4., 5., 6: Preludium or two dance movements
Pieces are to be played without sheet music.
General Admission Requirements:
MUSIC THEORY FOR APPLICANTS FOR THE IN PERSON ENTRANCE EXAMINATION:
Written examination:
- Bass harmonisation: harmonisation of a bass line of cca. 10 notes, indication of the accords with figures.
- Analysis: formal analysis of the opening movement of a sonata from the stylistic circle of Haydn and Mozart piano sonatas.
Exam in general music studies:
- Identification of 10 music pieces - possibly composer and title, but at least the epoch or style and identification or the genre.
- Explanation and interpretation of 10 music terms, concepts, titles, etc.
