András Gelléri wins this year’s Creative Art Award
Students of composition at our university, András Gelléri and Márk Csernovkszy finished first and second in this year's Creative Art competition, respectively. The third place was awarded to pianist Gergő Kovács, who graduated at our institution.
The Creative Art Competition, founded by György Vukán, was held on September 21 at the Kőszeg Institute for Advanced Studies. At the competition, held for the fifth time this year, the contestants had to perform an improvised, formally complete 5–20-minute piece without genre boundaries on a given topic, based on their own ideas and using spontaneous improvisation techniques.
The first prize went to András Gelléri, an MA sophomore of the composition department at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, and the second prize was awarded to Márk Csernovszky, a first year BA student in classical composition at our institution. Pianist Gergő Kovács, who graduated from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, finished in the third place.
Following the competition and the announcement of the results, the winners and the jury gave a hugely successful concert featuring several four-handed improvisations and a twelve-hand improvisation at the end.
The chairman of the jury was Károly Binder, Erkel and Artisjus Lifetime Achievement Award winner, pianist, composer, leader of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music Jazz Department, while the members of the jury were Kálmán Oláh, Erkel and Liszt Prize-winning pianist, composer, also a teacher at the Academy of Music, and Elemér Balázs Jr., winner of the same competition two years ago, currently freshman student of classical piano at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music.
