Csaba Onczay, professor emeritus at the Liszt Academy receives coveted prize from Japan
At the Japanese diplomatic mission in Budapest, His Excellency Ambassador Sato Kuni awarded the Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon of the Order of the Rising Sun to Csaba Onczay, Professor Emeritus of the Strings Department at the Academy of Music.
The cellist was awarded the highly esteemed recognition for “contributing to the relationship between Japan and Hungary in the field of music and contributing to the education and professional development of young Japanese musicians”. Csaba Onczay toured Japan for the first time in 1993, and since 1995 he held regular master classes at the request of a local Japanese-Hungarian association in Gifu Prefecture: In Japan, he has given over eighty concerts over the past twenty-five years, and taught nearly three hundred cellists.
