Dániel Lázár wins this year's Budavár Beethoven Competition
A total of twenty-five entries were submitted for the international competition announced by the Municipality of Budavár, of which a five-member jury selected the best. The composing competition was open to new, independently crated pieces of music never performed before, based on a recognizable motif in Beethoven's Violin Sonata No. 5 in F major (Spring Sonata).
The entries were judged by a jury invited by the Municipality of Budavár. The chairman of the jury was composer Miklós Maros, and its members included composer Gyula Fekete, music historian and critic Sándor Kovács, music historian and critic János Mácsai, as well as composer and chamber musician Péter Tornyai.
Two students from the Liszt Academy were awarded a prize at the competition: Freshman composer MA Dániel Lázár (Péter Tornyai's student) won the first prize, and sophomore composer BA Gergő Oláh Patrik (Gyula Fekete’s student) was awarded the third place.
The award-winning works will be presented on May 2 at the “Beethoven in Buda” Festival.
