Former Deputy Headmaster of Bartók Secondary School of Music passes away
Éva Bántai Sipos died at the age of 100.
She was born 3 June 1919. She studied piano between 1940 and 1943 with Prof. Emánuel at the Liszt Academy of Music, then she pursued studies between 1948 and 1951 at the teacher training college in Szeged. After working in Békéstarhos, Gyula (Erkel Ferenc Grammar and Music School), Szeged (College of Education) and Pécs (Vocational School of Music), she taught piano and music theory at the Béla Bartók Secondary School of Music from 1960 to 1982, until her retirement. She was also deputy headmaster of the institution. She taught classes to the participants of the School for Exceptional Young Talents at the Liszt Academy, then took over the instruction of methodology and practical teaching courses from József Soproni. She held courses in the USA, Switzerland, Portugal, England, Italy and Finland. With her husband, Vilmos Bántay, she was co-author of a collection of flute arrangements of Bartók and Kodály pieces published by Editio Musica Budapest. Her book titled A jó muzsikus látja, amit hall és hallja, amit lát (Good Musicians See What They Hear and Hear What They See) was published by the Municipal Pedagogy Institute in Budapest (1998). She was Outstanding Professional of Education (1975), and winner of the Weiner Leó Award of the National Association of Hungarian Creative Artists (2002), and the division award of the Hungarian Academy of Arts.
