Bernhard Klapprott studied harpsichord under Hugo Ruf and Bob van Asperen, organ under Michael Schneider and Ewald Kooiman and in master classes he studied basso continuo under Jesper Christensen and organ under Michael Radulescu. He completed his studies of harpsichord, organ and sacred music in Cologne and received his concert diploma in harpsichord “with distinction” in Amsterdam. 

In 1991 he was awarded the 1st prize at the 10th International Organ Competition of the Festival van Vlaanderen Brugge for his rendition of compositions by Bach and Mozart. He is an international concert performer as a soloist, basso continuo player and ensemble conductor, and has made CD and radio recordings, including the complete works for keyboard by Thomas Tomkins (German Recording Critics’ Prize). In 1999 he founded the Ensemble “Cantus Thuringia & Capella” with Christoph Dittmar; it has become known for its numerous concerts and recordings of central German repertoire of the 16th to the 18th centuries in particular. He initiated the project “Musik Heritage Thurigia” that is primarily dedicated to the rediscovery and publication of unknown Thuringian vocal and instrumental music (CD and publication series). His teaching activities have led him to the University of Dortmund, the music conservatories in Detmold, Herford and Bremen as well as to master classes. Since 1994, Bernhard Klapprott is a professor for harpsichord and historical keyboard instruments at the FRANZ LISZT Conservatory of Music Weimar, Institute of Ancient Music, as well as for organ repertoire of the 16th to 18th centuries.
