Kodály, Ligeti, Dohnányi and Lajtha in 1956
Analyses of the experiences of our significant composers in 1956 and their works associated with the revolution have been published as part of the ‘1956 and Music: History, Events, and Consequences’ volume, which was presented to the public on October 22 in the Solti Hall of the Academy of Music.
The book, a result of collaboration between the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, Kronosz Publishing House and the Historical Archives of Hungarian State Security, will be available in stores on October 17. It uses public and private messages, scores, sounds, images and personal memories of prominent figures in the musical world to outline the life in music around 1956. Thirteen studies contribute to a deeper understanding and reflection upon the history and legacy of the revolution that is still alive today.
The editors of the publication are Lóránt Péteri, the head of the Musicology Department at the Liszt Academy and György Gyarmati, Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, teacher at the University of Pécs and a member of the Historical Archives of Hungarian State Security.
