Liszt Academy is the only Hungarian university in the top 100
Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music is once again among the world’s top 51st–100th institutions in this year’s QS rankings by subject, along with the Santa Cecilia Academy in Rome and King's College London, among others.
Liszt Academy has retained its prominent position among the world’s art universities. One of the best-known higher education rankings, Quacquarelli Symonds’ (QS) recently published Rankings by Subject 2022 compares universities around the world in five major disciplines, with different weightings. Liszt Academy stands out among Hungarian universities with its 51st–100th place in the Performing Arts category (and especially with its 26th place in terms of academic reputation) as no other Hungarian university has performed so well in its own field.
QS does not publish detailed rankings from 50th place onwards, but compiles a group ranking instead, with the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music ranked alongside the likes of the Santa Cecilia Academy in Rome, King’s College in London, the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, the Boston University and the California Institute of the Arts. Also in this group are the Leipzig, Cologne and Hamburg Conservatoires, as well as the Academies of Music in Prague, Warsaw and Tallinn.
The international subject rankings are based on five criteria: reputation and prestige of the institution in the academic world, where the Liszt Academy scores highly (79.1 out of 100!), as well as recognition by employers, number of publications and citations, and international collaborations.
Musicology research at Liszt Academy as well as the scientific activities of the Kodály Institute and the Liszt Museum are both outstanding, internationally too. Researchers at Liszt Academy regularly accept foreign invitations, researchers at the Liszt Museum play a leading role in the international network of Liszt memorial places, the Kodály Institute has a world-wide reputation for the continuous development of the Kodály Method and its educational programmes (Kodály Hub, Move mi Music). In addition, many of Liszt Academy’s teachers are internationally renowned performers, and its graduates are well-known for their talent, gaining admission to prestigious symphony orchestras both in Hungary and abroad.
