Liszt Academy receives award from Slovenian partner university
The University of Ljubljana recognized the educational and cultural cooperation with the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music by awarding it the Pro Universitate Labacens plaque.
For years, the Liszt Academy has had a close partnership with the Ljubljana Academy of Music, which is part of the city’s university. “The award is given to those who have earned invaluable merits in the development of the Slovenian institution,” writes President Igor Papič in a letter to Liszt Academy Vice-President of International and Scientific Studies Gyula Fekete.
As part of the collaboration, on the occasion of the Day of Culture in Slovenia (8 February), students from Ljubljana give an annual joint concert with Hungarian students at the Liszt Academy and in the Slovenian capital with the assistance of the local Balassi Institute. Professors in both locations actively support the projects by helping students prepare, and students are also delighted to be involved. Slovenian and Hungarian compositions are performed at each concert, and new works are often created for the occasion. On behalf of the Ljubljana institution, Dusan Bavdek, Vice-President and composer, is the main organizer of the program.
“The Liszt Academy attaches great importance to regional educational, research and cultural collaborations, and maintains valuable relations with fellow music academies in Central European countries. Professors and students of the Academy of Music have also gained insight into the Slovenian music scene through instructor and student exchanges, which are part of Erasmus programs,” emphasized Gyula Fekete, recalling that the University of Ljubljana had great success at the Liszt Academy's Opera Festival, as well, a few years ago. The Vice-President expressed his hope that next January the long standing Opera Examination Festival of the Liszt Ferenc University of Music can be held again, at which one of the partner institutions of the Liszt Academy is introduced each year.
