Master Class by the Calefax Reed Quintet
The day after their concert in the Solti Hall (29 October 2017), three members of the Dutch reed quintet deliver a short master class.
The ensemble that had started as a grammar school quartet has now been touring around the world for more than three decades with the same, close-knit five of passionate reed players, acclaimed for their virtuosic playing, brilliant arrangements and innovative stage presentation. Calefax has an astonishingly varied repertoire ranging from 1100 to the present day. They perform their own arrangements and newly commissioned compositions for the unique combination of oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bass clarinet and bassoon.
The guests of the Master Class at the Liszt Academy are Oliver Boekhoorn (oboe), Ivar Berix (clarinet and chamber music), and Jelte Althuis (bass clarinet and chamber music), therefore the attendance is mainly encouraged for students of oboe, clarinet, and wind ensembles.
