Mozarteum pledges to support the Liszt Academy
The rector of the renowned Austrian institution commended the Franz Liszt University of Music as one of the most excellent institutions of its kind in Europe, known globally for its outstanding achievements and significant traditions.
Professor Elisabeth Gutjahr, president of the Mozarteum University Salzburg and vice president of the AEC (Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen) sent a letter to the community of the Liszt Academy. As explained in the letter, composer Simone Fontanelli, director of the university’s New Music Institute (Instituts für Neue Musik), enthusiastically reported a few weeks ago about his latest visit to the Liszt Academy in Budapest and provided an update on the current cooperation with teachers and students.
“Seeing how the artistic standard at the Liszt Academy has been consistently one of the highest in Europe for decades, the cooperation is of extraordinary international importance and visibility, which is why we are planning to create an international student ensemble with the participation of several higher education institutions in the EU. In addition, we plan to submit a joint EU funding application for the project,” stands in the letter. The professor recalls that starting from the 1990s, she has worked together in various roles and areas of cooperation with exceptional members of the Liszt Academy, including composer József Sári, pianist Ákos Hernádi and horn player Szabolcs Zempléni. They have all taken part in organizing the student exchange program with the Mozarteum.
“The Liszt Academy’s significant traditions and consciously upheld high standards remain unchanged and recognized worldwide. As Vice-President of the AEC, I am proud of your Academy, which deserves to decide over its own management autonomously and in fair competition in the future as well. The results achieved by the Liszt Academy can be clearly seen and heard all over the world,” concludes Elisabeth Gutjahr her letter.

Sehr geehrter Kollege,
nur wenige Wochen sind ins Land gezogen, da berichtete mir der Leiter unseres Instituts für Neue Musik, der Komponist Simone Fontanelli begeistert von seinem jüngsten Besuch an der Ferencz Liszt Akademie in Budapest und einer kooperativer Arbeitsphase mit dortigen Lehrenden und Studierenden. Das künstlerische Niveau ist seit Jahrzehnten ungebrochen eines der höchsten in Europa, die Zusammenarbeit sei international von hoher Relevanz und Sichtbarkeit, wir planen nun die Einrichtung eines internationalen Studierenden Ensembles zwischen mehreren EU-Hochschulen und einen entsprechenden gemeinsamen Finanzierungsantrag bei der EU.
Seit den 90iger Jahren des letzten Jahreshunderts habe ich in diversen Zusammenhängen mit herausragenden Persönlichkeiten der Ferencz-Liszt-Akademie kooperieren können. Ob mit dem Komponisten Sári Joszef, dem Pianisten Akós Hernadi oder dem Hornisten Zempléni Szabolcs oder im Studierendenaustausch seitens der Universität Mozarteum. Die große Tradition und das hohe Qualitätsbewusstsein der Akademie ist ungebrochen und weltweit anerkannt. Als Vizepräsidentin der AEC bin ich stolz auf diese Institution, die es verdient, auch weiterhin autonom und in einem fairen Wettbewerb die eigene Leitung zu bestimmen.
Der Leistungsausweis der Ferencz-Liszt Akademie kann sich weltweit sehen und hören lassen.
