Pianist, organist István Lantos was Head of Department professor for many years, president for three years and visiting professors at Japanese universities since 1986. Owner of Liszt Prize (1976), Bartók–Pásztory Prize (1992), Meritorious Artist Award (1998) and Kossuth Prize (2018) and a full member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts.
These are the dry facts. The essence, however, is that István Lantos has been the guardian of the Liszt spirit for decades at our Liszt Academy. He is such a musician blessed with many talents, in whom the creators of the profession and the performing talents unite. Those who heard his improvisation in 2013 in the Liszt Academy’s Grand Hall could have revived Liszt’s presence. His touch-culture is unparalleled worldwide; his hearing, taste, knowledge of the genre, his sensitive intuition and his humility towards music and his human fellows secure him a special place in the Hungarian music life. May God keep him among us for a long time!

Pianist Sándor Falvai, professor of the Liszt Academy, celebrated his 70th birthday this year. He has been teaching for 46 years with amazing hard work and highest artistic creed. Professor of the Liszt Academy since 1973 where he later headed the Keyboard Department various times. Among his students, we find artists like Dénes Várjon and Gábor Farkas. He was president of the Liszt Academy between 1997 and 2004; the DLA program started in his first management year, that allowed students of all instrumental, singing, composer and church music programs to acquire the doctoral degree. During his presidency, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage has declared the Main Building of the Academy “a priority national institution”. His art and professional commitment was rewarded by several state and international awards: the Liszt Prize, the Meritorious Artist, the Bartók–Pásztory Prize, Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon awarded by the Japanese Government and the Persian Academy’s Winged Lion Award.
His pure musical composition, sensitive touch and honest, flourishless performance is always inspiring to me. Dear Sándor, dear Professor, I want to congratulate you on this rich career, and I wish you success, fruitful teaching and good health!
