The academic year 2017/18 at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music was concluded with an end of school year celebration combined with a graduation ceremony.

The President of the Liszt Academy, Dr Andrea Vigh began her speech by addressing the international students of the university and then went on to sum up the most significant milestones and successful events of the past academic and concert year.

Among the international projects of the Liszt Academy, President Vigh listed the string orchestra event held with the participation of music students from Asia and the Danube region and conducted by Gábor Takács-Nagy in Singapore honouring the 150th anniversary of the Blue Danube Waltz. She also highlighted the project ‘Reconnections’ organised for the sixth time in collaboration with the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, the concert delivered by Euphony Central European Youth Orchestra within the framework of an event series held at various music academies of the region.  Also the Bartók World Competition and Festival   earned itself a mention: 2017 was the year of violinists, while 2018 is going welcome contestants in composition. President Vigh also talked about various university-related concerts organised by the Liszt Academy Concert Centre.

Finally, the President commemorated those extraordinary academics who passed away during this school year, and she listed the awards and decorations received by the academic staff of the Liszt Academy.

The President’s speech was followed by an award ceremony: at the end-of-school year ceremony held specially for B.A. students, the Vice-President of Education, Dr Csaba Kutnyánszky presented the Apor Héthy Scholarship of the Liszt Academy Foundation to two violinists of the School for Exceptional Young Talents, Eszter Gaál and Barnabás Somogyi.

Péter Kubina, associate professor of the Strings Department, the secretary of the Doctoral School, Katalin Somos-Füstös as well as Zoltán Kiss, conductor of the student orchestra of the Bartók Béla Secondary School of Music, Instrument Making and Repair were admitted to the President’s Honour Roll.

President Andrea Vigh handed over the diplomas to the graduates of the B.A. and M.A. programmes of the Liszt Academy and closed the academic year with the following words: „I sincerely trust that the Liszt Academy - in the spirit of the her long-standing tradition - will be in the centre of the Hungarian and international music scene, and we will carry on fulfilling our mission as successfully in the future as in the past.”

At the B.A end-of-school year ceremony, the singer Sára Bolyki (student of the Folk Music Department), while at the convocation of the M.A. programme, Đức Hoàng Long (student of the Department of Vocal and Opera Studies) took to the stage and enchanted their fellow-students and their families.
