Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship for the academic year 2024/2025
The application system is now open for applicants wishing to pursue studies at the Liszt Academy with the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship in the academic year 2024/2025.
The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme was launched in 2013 by the Hungarian Government. The core mission of the programme is to increase the number of foreign students in Hungary and to encourage Hungarian higher education institutions to attract top foreign students.
The Programme is managed by the Tempus Public Foundation (not the Liszt Academy).

Who can apply?
This scholarship program is applicable for candidates from countries that have a valid/effective bilateral educational work plan agreement signed by the Hungarian Ministry of Human Resources.
Generally, the scholarship is available for candidates from non-EU countries, however, the current list of Sending Partners can be found on the Stipendium Hungaricum website.
(Please check if music programmes are available for the citizens of your country in the framework of the scholarship programme.)
At the Liszt Academy, the scholarship is available for BA, MA and postgraduate Piano Soloist studies. The Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship is not available for non-degree studies at the Liszt Academy.
The scholarship is also applicable for partial (exchange) studies for 1-2 semesters for BA and MA students. An active student status at a higher education institution in your sending country is required for this.
For the programmes of the Kodály Institute, an active student status at a higher education institution in your sending country may not be needed for partial (exchange) studies. Please consult with the office of the Kodály Institute for more information about this: office[at]kodaly.hu
Current self-financed students of the Liszt Academy can apply for the scholarship for their 2nd and 3rd years of studies as well.
Please be cautious when choosing the study level and study mode during your application, as this cannot be changed after the application deadline.

Portfolio:
All scholarship applicants to the Liszt Academy are required to upload video recordings as part of their portfolio to their scholarship applications. Applicants who do not upload video recordings will be automatically rejected. Audio recordings are not accepted (except for composition specializations).

MA / Piano Soloist applicants:
All applicants wishing to pursue MA or postgraduate Piano Soloist studies must submit a preliminary credit recognition request directly to the Liszt Academy to determine whether the applicant's BA or MA diploma can be accepted to apply for the programme unless they have finished their BA or MA studies at the Liszt Academy in the same field. Language certificates:
For proof of language proficiency, the Liszt Academy only accepts the following language certificates:
- TOEFL IBT (minimum 60 points)
- IELTS Academic (minimum score of 5.0)
- Cambridge (minimum 154 points)
Language exam certificates are to be submitted by 31 March 2024 at the latest.
Diploma translations:
Applicants are to submit a Hungarian translation of their diploma for their application until 31 March 2024.

Current self-financed students:
Current self-financed students of the Liszt Academy applying for the scholarship for their 2nd and 3rd years of studies must upload a recommendation letter from their main subject professor. The recommendation letter has no specific required format, and it can be in English or Hungarian.
Obligations of scholarship holders
Compulsory Hungarian as a foreign language and culture course:
Please note that new Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship recipients are required to take the compulsory Hungarian as a foreign language and culture course offered by the Liszt Academy during the first two semesters of their studies as part of their scholarship agreement. By applying for the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship, you accept this requirement and the consequences of not adhering to it (withdrawal of certain provisions). Compulsory medical examination:
Applicants who are nominated by their sending country will need to complete a medical examination for their application.
Please note that new scholarship holders will need to take part in medical examinations organized by universities upon their arrival as well (it is free of charge for Scholarship Holders). This cannot be substituted with the medical examination completed for the application; both are compulsory.
Application process
After the application deadline, the application goes through a technical and formal check, during which the application documents are checked. Make sure you upload all the required documents and declarations where needed. The Liszt Academy does not accept insufficient applications.
Applicants are nominated by the Sending Partner in their home country, who decides how many applicants can be nominated for each field of study.
Applicants, who have passed the technical and formal check and were nominated by the Sending Partner, will be evaluated based on the portfolio they uploaded in the application system. For the portfolio, only video recordings can be accepted (except for composition specializations).

Entrance examinations
Applicants who pass the professional evaluation of their portfolio can proceed to the entrance examinations.
The entrance examinations for all courses at the Liszt Academy of Music take place at the end of June and at the beginning of July. Applicants are informed about the exact date of their entrance examination in May.
All applicants are required to appear at the entrance examinations in person in Budapest, Hungary. The live entrance examinations cannot be substituted in any way.
