Success for Jonatán Zámbó and Máté Balogh at composition competition of Central European String Quartet
Violinist Miranda Liu, founder and first violinist of Central European String Quartet (CESQ) announced an international composition competition in June 2018 with her quartet.
The jury members in the first round were the members of the quartet (Miranda Liu, Máté Soós, Haruka Nagao, Judit Szabó), and Erkel Prize and Bartók–Pásztory Prize winning composer László Tihanyi joined them for the second round. The winning composition is performed on 24 February 2019 at Óbudai Társaskör.
The first prize was awarded to Italian composer Leonardo Mezzalira for his composition titled Quartetto del pulsare e dell’ affiorare. Former Liszt Academy student of composition Jonatán Zámbó won third prize for his piece titled 14 bagatelles, and Máté Balogh, professor at the Kodály Institute, won the prize of the Liszt Academy Foundation for his work titled Lerchenquartett – Hommage a J. Haydn.
