Success for Zsófia Staszny and Ferenc János Szabó in Rome
Doctoral candidate Zsófia Staszny and associate professor Ferenc János Szabó won first prize at the the international competition of Danubia Talents.
The Danubia Talents Franz Liszt International Music Competition was held between 28 and 30 November 2018 in Rome. Among the 49 participants from 16 countries, several young Hungarian musicians participated successfully at the competition. The first prize in the adult chamber music category went to Zsófia Staszny (first year student at the Doctoral School of the Liszt Academy) and Ferenc János Szabó (associate professor at the Department of Vocal and Opera Studies) as a vocal piano duo.
The winners performed songs by Liszt, as well as his composer friends, Ödön Mihalovich, Ferenc Korbay, and János Végh from Vereb, the latter of whom died hundred years ago this year. Sheet music of the songs by the latter two are part of Franz Liszt’s estate, and the songs were performed at the competition with the permission of the Liszt Ferenc Memorial Museum and Research Centre.

Their complete competition programme was performed again on 17 December 2018 at the third doctoral candidates’ concert of this academic year, held at the György Solti Hall of the Liszt Academy.
