Successful Chinese class at Liszt Academy’s Bartók Conservatory

Following last year's positive experiences, the Chinese-Hungarian Educational Foundation, a partner of the Liszt Academy, will once again hold entrance examinations in Beijing on April 19–20 and in early July to recruit new students for the high school and university preparatory programs.

The collaboration began in 2023, and numerous intensive winter and summer masterclasses have been organized since at the Liszt Academy's Bartók Conservatory for talented young individuals aged 14 to 21. The program's popularity has grown to such an extent that an increasing number of students have shown interest in the training programs offered by the Liszt Academy and its secondary school.

As a result, the foundation, in collaboration with the Beijing-based International Music and Art Center (ICMA), which spans over 2,000 square meters across six floors, conducted entrance examinations in the Chinese capital last year.

Ten talented students were admitted and commenced their studies in September in a specially established class at the Bartók Conservatory.

This unique initiative garnered significant attention, with the Chinese state television's international channel, CGTN, reporting on it.

The foundation provides specialized solfège lessons in Chinese for piano, wind, and string students to enhance their participation in the program. Within less than a year, students in the Chinese class have shown remarkable progress, both in language skills and daily life competencies, and have expressed high levels of satisfaction. Several students have achieved prestigious placements in competitions, such as first prizes at the II. Pro Musica Festival and the XVII. National János Richter Clarinet Competition.

The Chinese-Hungarian Educational Foundation, which supports bilateral relations through scholarships, cultural events, and educational programs, maintains a close partnership with the Liszt Academy and its Bartók Conservatory. Together, they organize masterclasses and entrance examinations, recognizing that these Budapest-based institutions offer Chinese students not only excellent musical education but also the opportunity to integrate into the European educational environment.

According to the foundation, this experience can later provide significant advantages in university admissions and career development.

The program also offers high-level English language instruction, with the option to learn basic Hungarian, aiding students in their long-term studies in Hungary.

The nonprofit organization and the Liszt Academy plan to organize additional masterclasses, concerts, and competitions in China to showcase the excellence of Hungarian music schools and Hungary's rich cultural heritage.
