“The Liszt Academy’s traditions point beyond the boundaries of the institution”
The 2018/2029 academic year finished at the Liszt Academy with a graduation ceremony, handed out degrees and awarded institutional appreciations.
“The 144th academic year was more eventful than any earlier, yet the institutional operation was stable and provided a safe point for the professional work,” emphasized Dr Andrea Vigh, President of the Liszt Academy of Music, evaluating the year. She first greeted the international students in her speech emphasizing what a great pleasure it is that they are studying in the institution contributing their own culture to the diversity and the tradition of the Liszt Academy. She asked them to share their experience with the world and expressed her hope that they will keep good memories of the time spent here.

The university’s educational and concert activities form a unique and inseparable unity, highlighted the President. The inauguration of the restored organ in the autumn of 2018 was an outstanding event of the academic year, similarly to the, by now a tradition, International Eva Marton Singing Competition and the organization of the Bartok World Competition with the support of the Ministry of Human Capacities. She spoke about the significance of international relations that open several opportunities for students and teachers, and she also mentioned the large-scale development of the Kodaly Institute in Kecskemét.
Dr Andrea Vigh also spoke about teachers who already arrived or are joining soon, among them pianist János Balázs, violinist Kristóf Baráti, trombonist György Gyivicsán, hornist Zoltán Szőke, tubist Roland Szentpáli and she also emphasized that trombonist professor Gusztáv Hőna was awarded professor emeritus. She also remembered professors, who passed away: Gyula Babos, Mihály Ittzés, Janka Szendrei, Erika Sziklay and Csaba Ökrös among others. The President also spoke highly of professors honoured with state and professional awards, and she greeted the Prof. em. Ks. Éva Marton, who was recently honoured with the Kennedy Center’s Gold Medal in the Arts in Washington DC together with three other Hungarian artists. She cited the nearly countless student honours from various competitions.

Institutional awards for students followed. The President, together with Vice-President Dr Csaba Kutnyánszky and Gyula Fekete handed out the Frigyes Juhász-Prize to Bence Juhász, the Héthy-Apor scholarship to Anna Gál-Tamási and Kristóf Tóth and the Andor Neszlényi-Prize to Dániel Dobos. This time pianist, Head of Department Balázs Fülei received the Liszt Academy Foundation’s recognition, operator Attila Veres and Bartok Conservatory teacher Dr Edit Ibolya Papp received Presidential Commendation.
Dr Andrea Vigh handed out the Bachelor’s, Master's and the Music Education degrees individually. “The Liszt Academy’s traditions point beyond the boundaries of the institution, and the future depends on students; they carry on the traditions” - stated the President, asking them to also absorb further knowledge and artistic experiences besides the knowledge acquired here. She expressed her conviction that the Liszt Academy has provided the best training for them.
