School for Exceptional Young Talents – Entrance Exam 2025
Eligible Applicants
Applicants need to meet the following criteria in order be eligible for the School for Exceptional Young Talents:
- the applicant is at least 10 years old or 15 years old at the most on the day of the application deadline
- the applicant has not started their high school studies
- the president of the Liszt Academy has the right to grant special permission for eligibility in case of applicants who are not yet ten years old.
Available programmes at the School for Young Talents: violin, cello and piano.
(Applications to other programmes are to be decided case by case and only by the permission of the President of the Liszt Academy, and only those applicants are to be admitted, whose admission is agreed to by all the professors of the Young Talents programme.)
time and place of the entrance examination
Time: 19 March 2025 (Wednesday), 10.00
Place: Main building, Room No. X (Liszt Ferenc sq. 8., Budapest, 1061)
On the day of the entrane examination, rehearsal is available from 08.00 AM.
The aural test takes place after the main subject at the same place.

Admission Requirements
A) Main subject
Piano:
- one polyphonic piece by J.S.Bach
- one complete classical sonata
- one significant romantic piece
- one 20th century or 21th century piece
- one virtuoso etude
Violin:
- one etude at a difficulty level of a Mazas etude
- a solo piece
- a movement of a concerto
Cello:
- one solo piece at the choice of the candidate
- two pieces with piano accompaniment, preferably from different periods
B) SOLFÉGE EXAMINATION (AURAL TEST)
- Aural test: singing of note intervals (up to an octave).
- Knowledge of triads: major/minor, diminished/augmented and their inversions.
- Informal conversation about the folk music of the candidate's country (analysis of folk songs).
