Position at the Institute: lecturer
Dávid Farkasházi is an esteemed graduate of the Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Orchestral and Choir Conducting with highest honours in 2015, and received two Master’s degrees in 2019, in Choir Conducting with highest honours and Teacher of Music Education with outstanding qualification. His teachers were Professo Csaba Somos, Professor Ádám Medveczky, Professor Valér Jobbágy, Professor Dr. László Norbert Nemes and Borbála Szirányi. He also studied for one semester at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin in Jörg-Peter Weigle’s Choir Conducting class with the Erasmus exchange programme in 2017/18. During that academic year he was also a participant of a Postgraduate Choir Conducting traineeship at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin.
He participated in several conductor masterclasses led by well-known conductors and composers such as Peter Eötvös, Stefan Parkman, György Vashegyi and Eric Whitacre. He won first prize at the Hungarian National Competition of Young Choir Conductors in 2016. He was awarded the special prize at the Jāzeps Vītols 6th International Choral Conductors Competition in Riga, Latvia in 2019. He is one of the organists of Saint Anne Church, Budapest and has been the conductor of the Youth Orchestra of the Church since 2010. He was the chief conductor of the Béla Bartók Female Choir in Szeged for the 2017/18 concert season.
He has been a music teacher and the conductor of the Children’s Choir at Károly Kós Elementary School, Budapest since September 2018. He joined the Kodály Institute in September 2019 as a lecturer of Conducting and became an Assistant Teacher of Methodology for László Norbert Nemes.
In 2017 he took part in the Kodály HUB Sing. Learn. Share. international project involving The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and the Liszt Ferenc Music Academy to create the Kodály HUB public online knowledge centre. He also joined the „Every day singing Programme” which is the teacher traning programme in which he introduces the Kodály HUB and demonstrates its usefulness.
